Mirza Muratovic double helps FFA Centre of Excellence thrash Monaro Panthers

FFA Centre of Excellence 4 (OG, Brooks, Muratovic x2) def 0 Monaro Panthers

A Mirza Muratovic brace has helped the FFA Centre of Exellence to a 4-0 win over the Monaro Panthers on Saturday afternoon in Googong.

The striker now sits tied-fifth in the PS4 National Premier League golden boot race having scored nine goals in 11 appearances.

But, the former Sydney United player says he’s more interested in doing his part of the team rather than winning individual accolades.

“Just doing enough for the team is an achievement for me,” Muratovic said.

“My main goal was to beat last seasons goal tally, which I’ve managed to do in fewer games.”

The result hands Monaro its 12th straight loss and sees the FFA Centre of Excellence consolidate their place at the top of the table.

The game was controlled by the academy early with plenty of chances not being converted.

Some crafty work by right-back Cam O’Doherty led to a Panthers own-goal gifting the FFA Centre of Excellence the lead.

Forward Lleyton Brooks was quick to double the lead in the 30th minute before Muratovic scored to essentially wrap up the game on the stoke of half-time.

Muratovic then grabbed his second goal of the game after half-time to round out the scoring.

The striker believes the academy controlled the game from start to finish and was full of praise for defensive unit after they recorded their third straight clean sheet.

“Our defence has been great,” Muratovic said.

“For an attacker like myself it’s great to know that the job is being done behind me. It leaves it to me and the other fowards to do the scoring.”

“Being on top of the ladder is a massive achievement.

“We dominated the game as a whole, especially when you look at the score-line. “
