FFA Centre of Excellence’s Marc Tokich has taken home the 2016/17 Foxtel National Youth League Player of the Year award.
Among the who’s who of the Australian football world, Tokich accepted the award at The Star Event Center in Sydney on Monday night.
Technical Director Peter de Roo praised Tokich’s resiliency, on and off the field.
“He really has had some tough times in our program… without his attitude, patience and mental toughness shown in the past two years he wouldn’t be where he is now.” Said de Roo.
“That is also exactly why this fully deserved award is only the first step to bigger and better things for Marc.”
Under the guidance of head-coach Tony Vidmar, the Canberra FC junior becomes the first Centre of Excellence player to take home the honor, capping off an outstanding season.
Vidmar believes recent recognition of Tokich talent is more than warranted.
“Marc’s award was fully deserved; his performance was of a very good standard.” Said the former Socceroo.
“We played him in a number of positions throughout the season and showed what a smart footballer he is, along with his technical ability.”
Tokich joins Centre of Excellence scholars Dylan Smith and Liam Youlley as winners of the award.
The Centre of Excellence squad also took home the Foxtel National Youth League Fair Play award, given to the team with the lowest points on the fair play ladder at the conclusion of the NYL regular season.
