A strong fight back lead by a brace from John Roberts was not enough, as Central Coast Mariners Youth prevailed 4-2 over the FFA Centre of Excellence.

The youngsters looked dangerous early, with crisp passing into the attacking third, but they were unable to convert the chances created.

It was a sweltering day in Tuggerah, with a drink break mandated at the 23rd minute. A goal from Lachlan Wales just after the break saw the Mariners take a 1-0 lead into half time.

FFA CoE were not without chances and looked certain for an equaliser, the Mariners defence held solid by Jacques Faty.

Duncan Stewart wasted no time in the second half, with a brace to his name within 14 minutes.

The youngsters were desperate to stay in the game, and 5 minutes later John Roberts sparked their hopes with an impressive strike that flew into Munford’s top corner.

The comeback was shortlived as Stewart rounded out his hattrick in the 78th mniute.

Roberts again responded in the 86th minute, firing home from close range, unfortunately concluding the scoring.

With a bye in round 7, the current FFA CoE youngsters will resume their maiden Foxtel National Youth League campaign at home against Sydney FC on 7 January 2017.
